Meet Lesley Sim from Newsletter Glue, a plugin that connects your email service provider to WordPress and turns the block editor into a newsletter builder so that you can build and send newsletters directly from WordPress.
Lesley Sim was a government employee, ad agency suit, freediving instructor… And then she found WordPress. She built sites on WordPress as part of her digital marketing agency and moved to building plugins last year. Now, she focus on Newsletter Glue, a plugin that connects your email service provider to WordPress and turns the block editor into a newsletter builder so that you can build and send newsletters directly from WordPress.
What do you enjoy most about working in WordPress?
I started building Newsletter Glue just as the pandemic hit and it has kept me sane. The community I found online and in person has been wonderful, inclusive and well-intentioned.
I’ve also been particularly impressed with the willingness to take a long term view. Making hundreds of thousands (maybe even millions?) of people actively angry for 5-10 years so that WordPress can be rebuilt with modern frameworks and programming languages in order to stay relevant and competitive for years to come is an insanely bold move.
I admire that deeply and hope to lead my own life in similar fashion.
What do you love most about your Post Status membership?
The candor and helpfulness of the community. My plugin is young and I’m relatively new to the WordPress community, but have been embraced with open arms in the Slack group.
It’s been easy to chat with and get advice from all sorts of plugin founders. From those who are starting out, just like me… To those with millions of users.
What business/web/WordPress advice do you have for others in our industry?
Keep putting your work out there, contributing, helping others, asking for help.
There’s a super fun party going on and people can’t wait to invite you in. All you need to do is *not* show up empty handed.
We’re happy to have Lesley as a Post Status member!
